WordCamp SLC 2013 Recap

wordcamp-slc-2013

This weekend I made the trek up to Salt Lake for WordCamp SLC 2013, and I had a blast! This was the third WordCamp I’ve attended, and the first I’ve presented at. I gave a talk on How to Rock Client Relationships, and I bribed people (with stickers) to tweet nice things during my presentation:

I’ll update this post with a link to the video presentation when it’s live! Here is a copy of my slides:

My favorite part of WordCamps is meeting online friends face-to-face for the first time, seeing old friends, and making new ones. I’ve known Aaron Eaton, Rebecka Hathaway, and Thauna Kazakevicius (pictured below) through several different design/development Facebook groups for some time now, and it was awesome finally meeting them in person.

It was great seeing BlueHost Reps Bryan Petty and Mike Hansen again after hanging out at WordCamp SF, and it was especially fun getting to know WordCamp Organizer Joseph Scott and having a brain-bending conversation at the unofficial after-party about how far technology has come in the last 40 years, and where we see it going (our conversation ranged from “What would anyone ever DO with 10MB of space? That’s SO MUCH SPACE!” to “We’re almost to the point where we could scan an item with our Google Glass just by looking at it, then have it waiting for us at home on our 3D printer.”)

My favorite talks of the day included “WordPress i18n” by Chris Reynolds, and “The WordPress Theme Hook Alliance” by Mike Hansen. Check back soon for links to slides/videos of must-watch talks, and thank you to everyone who helped make WordCamp SLC a success! :)

  1. Great presentation today Jessica. You are very knowledgable and gave some great advice.

  2. As I mentioned to you on Saturday, I really enjoyed your presentation. As I’ve considered the realities of freelance work, I’ve had a lot of questions. You’ve given me a lot to think about and some direction on where to start. Oh, and I love the stickers, too :)

  3. And this is why I love working with you! Great slides.
